Derwyn
has been providing
Process Control & Automation (PC&A) products and services in
South Africa since 1984, when he started working as a contractor at the
RM3 site of Rand Mines in the old Gold Mining sector of Johannesburg -
Crown Mines.
Prior
to those early days,
Derwyn was educated and grew up in England and saw first employment
with British Nuclear Fuels Ltd (BNFL). They provided him with excellent
training and education by way of an apprenticeship in Instrumentation.
Derwyn completed a comprehensive 4 year apprenticeship along with 5
years at technical colleges where he completed "City and Guilds T1/T2
Industrial Measurement & Control" and a Higher Technicians
Certificate (City and Guilds HNC), also in Industrial Measurement &
Control.
Derwyn
moved to South
Africa in 1982 and joined the Gencor mining group at Grootvlei mine in
Springs. In January 1984, Derwyn decided to work as a contractor for
Wade Walker, contracting to Rand Mines. In 1985, Derwyn was employed by
Bateman Process Instrumentation (BPI) as a PLC Project Engineer. BPI
provided Derwyn with many opportunities and challenges and Derwyn was
to go and work on many PLC, SCADA and DCS products and projects.
Derwyn
also developed
customer relationship skills to the extent that BPI asked him to work
in a sales role. This also turned into success and saw Derwyn in
several roles including branch manager, technical support manager,
product manager and sales manager.
BPI
encouraged Derwyn to
develop further and it was while at BPI that Derwyn attended many local
and overseas technical training courses and in 1992 completed a
Management Advancement Program (MAP) at Wits University Business School.
Since
1994, Derwyn has been
living and working in Cape Town and in 2000 started his own systems

Derwyn has built up a highly respected reputation for providing

expanded to include production monitoring and reporting systems,
solutions and consultation. With his involvement in PSQ and SAPICS, he
has also been able to share these experiences and knowledge with a far
